Germany has set itself a long-term energy policy strategy and the decision in August 2011 to phase out nuclear power. The Federal Government initiated a monitoring process to review the progress made on attaining the goals. The presentation discusses the progress in Germany’s energy transition with a special focus on the discussions about the phase out of coal-based power generation.
Professor Andreas Loeschel is a member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering, and the Senate of the University of Munster. Since 2011 he has been the Chairman of the Expert Commission of the German Government's "Energy of the Future" to monitor the energy transformation. In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) economist ranking, he was several times among the 50 most influential economists in Germany.
